Tonight at Midnight

Friday September 3, 2010

Dear Friend,

Our final financial reporting deadline before the primary is tonight at midnight. Will you take a few moments to read this email message and
make a contribution to help our campaign report the strongest numbers possible? We have less than 24 hours to meet our fundraising goal, so your urgent response is needed.

Aloha ke Akua,
Duke

Begin forwarded message:

Duke Aiona for Governor

Dear Friend,
Critical Campaign Deadline
Tomorrow at Midnight

Help me report the strongest
numbers possible.

We're just over 24 hours away from a very important campaign deadline. Tomorrow marks the final day of our financial reporting period. Both of my opponents will be looking at my report to judge the strength of my campaign.

You and I know this campaign is strong thanks to the support of grassroots activists around the state. We continue to build on this strength with each passing day, moving forward toward our vision of building a better Hawai`i. However, if I do not report the strongest numbers possible on this report, the work we have put in up to this point may be washed away by negative attacks from my opponents.

So will you
follow this link right now to make an emergency contribution of $25, $50, $100 or more?

You have played such an important role in my campaign so far, and I hope I can continue to count on your support as we inch closer to tomorrow's deadline.
Any amount you can give is appreciated. Please know that no amount is too small. Every dollar counts toward making sure we report strong numbers on our final financial report before the primary election.

Serving as your next Governor is an honor I hope to have. I have been blessed to serve the people of Hawai`i as a public servant, and I want nothing more than to continue this service. Finding solutions to the diverse challenges we face is my top priority. This race has always been an an uphill battle, but I believe we are building a winning campaign by actively engaging voters across the state with our message and plans for Hawai`i's future.

The reality is that my opponents still hold a financial advantage over my campaign. And with campaign expenses growing each day, we must work hard to close this gap.
Your generous donations have funded important campaign activities that allow me to connect with working families across Hawai`i.

Our campaign activities will only increase in the final two months of this campaign. That's why your immediate donation is needed. Please take a moment to
follow this link to give $25, $50, $100, $250 or more before our deadline tomorrow at midnight.

Mahalo for your continued support!

Aloha ke Akua,

Duke Aiona

P.S. Our final financial reporting deadline before the primary is quickly approaching tomorrow at midnight. My opponents will use the numbers we report as a sign of my campaign strength. Will you help me report the strongest numbers possible by making an immediate donation of $25, $50, $100, $250 or more?

Welcoming home Little League Champions

Thursday September 2, 2010

Duke welcomed home the U.S. Champion Waipio Little League team Monday at the Honolulu Airport after their return from a successful run at the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania.

“The entire state is behind you,” Duke said. “Every game was in the paper; you were the news, and you’re coming back as heroes.”

Despite losing 4-1 to Japan in the final game of the series, the Waipio team came back champions. They played five days in a row, each time facing elimination, on their way to becoming U.S. champions. Hawai`i was the first team ever to play seven games in the Little League World Series.

“The hard work starts with you,” Duke added. “You’re role models, and you have held yourselves to the highest standards.”

Connecting Communities

Tuesday August 31, 2010

Duke Aiona today announced that he will kick off his Connecting Communities initiative to hold 20 talk stories in 20 communities across the state. The new statewide effort to connect working families and concerned citizens to each other and the issues they care about most follows Duke's small business initiative in which he met with more than 120 small businesses in 100 days.

"It is only through an active and engaged public that we will be able to achieve lasting solutions to the issues we face," Duke said. "These talk stories are an essential part of my plan to ensure all of our residents have the opportunity to live, work and raise a family in a Hawai‘i they can afford. Hawai‘i is the most diverse state in the nation, and it's important to meet with and listen to families in every community."

As part of the Connecting Communities initiative, Duke will discuss his policy agenda and plan for Hawai‘i and answer questions from the community. All of the Connecting Communities events will be organized by Duke's grassroots campaign.

Duke's Connecting Communities initiative will begin this week on the Neighbor Islands. The first Connecting Communities event on O`ahu will be held in Kapolei, where the Lieutenant Governor lives with his family. Many of the events will be streamed online at www.DukeAiona.com.

MMA Hawaii Endorses Duke for Governor

Monday August 30, 2010

Duke today announced that MMA Hawai‘i, the largest mixed martial arts organization in Hawai‘i, has endorsed his campaign for Governor.

“Duke is an inspiration to all of us,” said Norman Kaui, chief executive officer and founder of MMA Hawai‘i. “He has the right vision and experience to make Hawai‘i a leader among the world’s sports destinations. I encourage all of our fans to vote for Duke Aiona for Governor.”

“Hawai‘i residents are passionate about their sports and sporting events, which have a tremendous impact on our communities and way of life,” said Duke. “Nowhere is passion for sports more evident than in our growing MMA community and I am honored to have their support.”

As Governor, Duke will work to establish a sports commission to attract, develop, manage and promote sports and sporting events throughout our islands.

Over the last decade, competition for sports and sporting events has greatly intensified, and sports commissions have been set up around the country to promote their state or their community.

More soccer, surfing, mixed martial arts, softball, baseball, swimming and other tournaments could be hosted in Hawai‘i. For example, the American Youth Soccer Organization National Games and Little League Championships all seek out venues to host regional and championship events.

“I will continue to work with community leaders to pursue solutions to make Hawai‘i a worldwide leader in sports destinations and promote active and healthy lifestyles,” added Duke.

More information about MMA Hawai‘i can be found online at www.mmahawaii.com.

The Duke-A-Lele

Sunday August 29, 2010

Buddy Blaze, Kailua Kona's famous creator of stringed instruments, has built a new creation...a one-of-a-kind version of his electric Shred-A-Lele - the Duke-A-Lele.

Buddy presented Duke Aiona with the custom-made instrument Saturday at the Summer Jam for Duke on Hawai`i Island. Check it out.

Dukulele

In 2007, as Lt. Governor, Duke Aiona accepted a custom-built guitar that Buddy Blaze made as a gift of gratitude for a military band deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan. Duke gave the guitar to the Hawai`i Air National Guard to deliver to the troops.

Medical Associations Endorse Duke Aiona for Governor

Friday August 27, 2010

Duke today announced that the Hawai`i Ophthalmological Society (HOS) and the Hawai`i Medical Political Action Committee (HAMPAC) have endorsed his campaign for Governor.

“The Hawai`i Ophthalmological Society's political action committee members invite all of Hawai`i's physicians to join them in endorsing Duke Aiona based on his commitment to advancing affordable, quality health care in the state of Hawai`i,” said Joseph Zobian, M.D., an ophthalmologist representing Hawai'i's society of eye physicians and surgeons. “Duke Aiona understands the need to put the public’s interest above special interests, which includes enacting meaningful tort reform that protects our doctors and hospitals. In these difficult times, we need his continued support of our efforts to provide the people of Hawai`i with the highest quality medical care possible.”

HOS is a group of medical doctors who provide the people of Hawai`i with complete eye care.

Lt. Governor Duke Aiona also received the endorsement of HAMPAC, the political arm of the Hawai`i Medical Association.

“It is a pleasure to reaffirm our commitment to Duke Aiona and all that he stands for,” said Dr. Paul DeMare, HAMPAC Chairman.

HAMPAC is a voluntary, non-profit, non-partisan organization of physicians and spouses that was founded in 1963 to financially support pro-medicine candidates seeking public office.
